SRC Center of Excellence Hernia Surgery

Surgical Institute of Reading is now a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery

Surgical Institute of Reading achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery (COEHS) from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) in April of 2025.

We are proud to be part of only 10 hospitals to have achieved this prestigious status in the State of Pennsylvania.

Health care facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to verify the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment. Inspectors educate staff in the accredited departments on best practices to improve its care and services.

SRC is an independent, nonprofit patient safety organization. For over two decades, it has diligently accredited healthcare providers worldwide, including hospitals, freestanding outpatient facilities, surgeons and medical professionals. SRC accreditations are unique as they acknowledge both the facility and physicians who deliver exceptional patient care. This recognition reinforces our commitment to delivering the highest standard of care to our patients.

This accomplishment is a testament to Surgical Institute of Reading’s steadfast commitment to not only working to ensure optimal outcomes and safety, but also delivering an unrivaled patient experience. Patients can take comfort in knowing that Surgical Institute of Reading has received third-party verification for its patient care efforts. SRC’s strict evaluation guidelines prioritize patient safety and continuous quality improvement.

Why would patients prefer an accredited provider over one without accreditation?

SRC accreditation is a clear indicator to patients that Surgical Institute of Reading is committed to a higher standard of care. Studies have shown that SRC-accredited providers achieve reduced risk of complications, faster recovery times and better outcomes.
